The idea of the video comes from a previous interactive narrative that I've wrote with the same name. The main character (player) keeps waking up from the same time and experience a loop of the same day. This video made as a "preview for the game".
The original approach was to use a character from Mixamo and rig the character's face with a blender extension. Since working with MetaHuman to retarget with motion captured date in MotionBuilder at the time is very tedious (pretty sure it wasn't as easy as now in UE5). However, the outcome of the face rig with Blender's extension.
Since face capture was also a crucial part of the project, we decided to design and retarget MetaHuman. I used the MetaHuman online editor to create the character for the motion capture video.
After finishing the design with MetaHuman, I proceed to retarget the motion captured data to the character. There was a series of tutorial that I found to help with retargeting.
After the motion (Winsey) and facial capture (Jessi) and the environment (Jessi) were prepared, I recorded footages from UE and exported video to edit in Premiere Pro.Â
Although throughout the process of making the project have lots of challenges, one of most significant one that affected the quality of the project is glitches of MetaHuman with motion capture in UE. Sometimes the head or hands of the character would cut off when the camera is in a distance. This resulted that serval scenes weren't able to be used for the final output. Also, with the lack of experience in version control, the team faces issue of time management in sharing the relative project files.
